I Get to Use My Voice!

Most people who know me know that I used to be into acting quite heavily (in high school). While I was voted “Most Photogenic” during my senior year, I was told by classmates that I was in the running for “Most Dramatic” (NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY). What many of those same people don’t know is that prior to high school, I was never given acting roles in plays at school. I was always chosen to be the narrator. When I was very little, people would wonder how old I was because of my voice. For as long as I can remember, I have gotten compliments on my voice. Lots of people predicted that I would be an anchor woman, or a radio personality, or a person who does voice-overs. I’ve always LOVED public speaking. That was my absolute FAVORITE course in college!

About two years ago, I ran into someone who used to attend the church I attended most of my life. She said that she was surprised to hear from someone that I was a teacher. (To be honest, that somewhat offended me, because it was like she was insinuating that I was “JUST a teacher”, but that’s beside the point.) Anyway, prior to that (I guess about 5 or 6 years ago), I started wondering myself. I kept asking God, “What was all of that for? What was the point?” I had been told all my life that my voice is my gift. So I wondered, “If my voice is my gift, why am I not really using it?”

Well, I finally got my answer! As part of my new job, I have to create video tutorials for the school’s website. I can’t tell you how excited I was to have done this! And I was even more excited when I realized that my prayers have been answered! I was already loving my job, and now this!?! I feel like I am truly starting to discover my purpose.
