I applaud Canva for its accessibility tools; they provide a great start with the ability to check text semantics, color contrast, typography, alternative text, and reading order. But I just learned the hard way that Canva does not natively generate proper PDF/UA or accessible tag structures…at least not currently. So…
A PDF created in Canva may not be as accessible as one would think after running the checks, especially if it contains hyperlinks.
I always run documents through Adobe Acrobat’s Accessibility Checker, and with this particular document, I lost HOURS of my life this week trying to resolve the errors. I’ve been living and breathing web accessibility for the past 10 months, so I’m familiar with these specific errors and I know exactly how to resolve them. But none of what I knew worked. I essentially had to break each of the hyperlinks and recreate them in Acrobat to resolve the “tagged annotations” error and create the proper tag structure.
